Introduction

As sectionalism increased in the United States, people looked to the Federal Government to provide some sort of solution to the issues that began popping up. However, with each step that Congress took, it seemed that things only got more and more tense between the North and the South. With the results of the Dred Scott decision, Congress lost their ability to regulate slavery in territories.

Events like John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry only added insult to injury. In 1860, with the upcoming election coming close, Jefferson Davis wrote 6 resolutions to spell out clearly the views of southern democrats. But  would his actions help or make things worse?
